Derrick Jones

National Director in Education Advisory

 
Derrick is an experienced Director who focuses on the needs of the Education and Training sector. Prior to entering consultancy, Derrick had 15 years experience in education with his last post being as a Vice Principal of a large College in the North West of England where he was responsible for the areas of Finance, Personnel, Estates, MIS, Admissions, Marketing, and Catering. He also taught in the Faculty of Business and Management at Level 2 to Level 5.

His areas of expertise include change management, performance improvement through curriculum development, and strategic options reviews and evaluation. Derrick has led over 20 College Structure and Prospects Appraisals, Strategic Options Reviews, and Mergers. He has worked with a large number of providers to help them plan, manage and deliver a range of projects and programmes. He has been involved in a number of projects for over 100 further education providers across the UK, including Reviews of Curriculum, Funding Reviews, Business Process Reviews, Structural Reviews, HR Reviews, ALS Reviews, Development of Estates Strategies, and Governance Reviews.

John Tomlinson

John has over 35 years’ experience as a lecturer and manager in the Further Education sector and for the last 19 years working as an adviser to the education sector for a number of national consulting firms and now as an independent adviser.

As an adviser to the Further Education sector John has worked on many college mergers, Structure and Prospects Appraisals and strategic options reviews across the UK. In addition to his work on mergers and strategic options, John has worked on a wide range of projects across the sector including undertaking efficiency and effectiveness projects, curriculum & strategic planning projects, support staff reviews, staff utilisation reviews and business process reviews.

John has also has worked with many colleges reviewing additional learning support and with the AoC delivers seminars to the sector on ALS.

Clive Proctor

Clive is a very experienced MIS professional who has worked in the post-16 FE sector for over 30 years, including 20 years in management information.

Working in the sector for one of the large accountancy firms in recent years Clive has gained significant experience of performing in a consultancy role in the sector.

Engagements have Included interim IS Manager roles as well as supporting MIS departments at a number of colleges and training providers. Clive’s experience, capabilities and approach have resulted in engagements often extended to 6+ months as the working relationship developed into additional areas of work and one off projects.

As well as general MIS management Clive’s experience and expertise covers:

  • ILR data credibility;
  • data cleansing and optimisation;
  • utilising DSAT and clearing Funding Monitoring reports to ensure statuary returns are complete, accurate and timely.

Clive is in short a versatile, competent and experienced MIS manager with significant sector experience.
